Step 3: Add Ad Groups of the Campaign Builder allows you to select a strategy, add creative ad groups, and manage targeting type for the campaign.
Targeting Type
You can fine-tune your ad impressions of a campaign with multiple creatives by selecting a targeting type. Targeting type enables some control over which creative appears in the first ad impression displayed to targeted accounts, and which creatives appear if and when the accounts receive your ad later.
The options for targeting type include:
- All (default option): Enables display of the creative to any users who match the Standard or User retargeting definitions.
- Standard: Directs the campaign to display this creative only to users who haven’t yet visited your website. If you have multiple Standard creatives, they rotate evenly.
- User retargeting: Directs the campaign to display the creative only when a user previously visited your website and received a retargeting pixel. If you have multiple User retargeting creatives, they rotate evenly.
Prerequisites
- You must have access to Demandbase Advertising.
- Be prepared to provide Ad Creative Sets. See the following articles:
Select a Strategy
- Create a new campaign or select a campaign you want to edit. See Building an Advertising Campaign for Campaign Builder or Edit and Manage Campaigns.
- Go to Step 3: Add Ad Groups of the Campaign Builder.

If you didn’t configure Step 2: Journey Targeting, under Set campaign outcome & optimization, select campaign outcome and optimization options. See Understanding Campaign Outcomes and Optimization.
Important: The Clicks option is unavailable if you selected CTV ad format in Step 1: Campaign Basics. - Add ad groups based on the following scenarios. See Understanding the Creative Library, Ad Groups, and Ungrouped Creatives.
- If you configured Step 2: Journey Targeting, in each journey area, click Add ad group.
- If you didn’t configure Step 2: Journey Targeting, under Add ad groups, click Add ad group.
Add Ad Group(s)
You can create, use existing, and delete ad group(s) from the campaign.
Create an Ad Group
- In the Add ad groups pop-up, click + Upload Creatives.
- Select Creatives only or Excel + Creatives.
- In the Type here to get started box, enter a name for the ad group, and click Create "[Name]".
- Upload or browse for creatives.
- If uploading creatives only, enter the click URL or landing page.
- Click Submit.
- In the Add ad groups pop-up, select the new ad group, and any additional ad groups as needed.
- Click Save.
Add Creatives to an Existing Ad Group
- In the Add ad groups pop-up, click + Upload Creatives.
- Select Creatives only or Excel + Creatives.
- In the Type here to get started box, select an existing ad group.
- Upload or browse for creatives.
- If uploading creatives only, enter the click URL or landing page.
- Click Submit.
- In the Add ad groups pop-up, select the existing ad group, and any additional ad groups as needed.
- Click Save.
Use an Existing Ad Group
- In the Add ad groups pop-up, select one or more existing ad groups.
Tips:- You can search for ad groups by name and label.
- Click the expand arrow to see all the creatives in the ad group.
- Click Save.
Remove Ad Group
- Create a new campaign or select a campaign you want to edit. See Building an Advertising Campaign for Campaign Builder or Edit and Manage Campaigns.
- Go to Step 3: Add Ad Groups of the Campaign Builder.
- For each ad group, click right X.
- Select one or more ad groups and click Save.
Select a Targeting Type
- Under each ad group, click the All drop-down.
- Select a targeting type.
- Click Next to go to Step 4: Media Planning of the Campaign Builder.
