Heatmaps provide a visual overview of account activity by comparing row and column data in a grid. Color shading indicates activity levels - the darker the shade, the higher the value.
For example, in the following heatmap, darker shading in the Marketing row indicates higher Engagement Point values for roles in that department.
The following areas of Demandbase include heatmaps:
- Engagement: Shows the number of Engagement Points.
- People: Shows the number of associated lead and contact records.
- Journeys: Shows the number of accounts in an identified Journey Stage.
In addition, if you have a CRM integration with Demandbase, you can choose additional data types to apply to rows and columns in the heatmap on the Visualforce page (for example, Account Type, Tier, etc.).
View Options
You can use preset or custom options to segment the data shown in heatmaps.
Preset
The Preset option allows you to select from default row and column combinations.
Use Cases for Heatmaps with the Preset Option
The following articles show how to configure and view heatmaps in various areas of Demandbase:
- For activity analytics in Engagement Points: Understanding Activities
- For engagement by location: View Activity Locations
- For engagement by People categories (leads and contacts): Understanding the Person Dashboard and People Page
- For Journey Stages progress: Understanding the Journey Volume Dashboard
- For Journey conversion: Understanding the Journey Conversion Dashboard
- For metrics about the average number of days accounts take to move to the next Journey Stage: Understanding the Journey Velocity Dashboard
Custom
The Custom option allows you to select from all the fields available in Demandbase, as well as from integrated CRM and marketing automation systems (MAS). This gives you more flexibility to define the data shown in a heatmap.
You can use View Management to create a default heatmap to show the Custom option. See Create and Manage User Views.
Tip: At the top right of the heatmap, you can set the maximum number of heatmap rows displayed on the page.
Examples for Heatmaps with the Custom Option
The following examples are some useful row and column combinations to customize heatmaps.
Row |
Column |
|---|---|
| Industry | Region |
| Account Tier | Industry |
| Account Tier | Region |
| Intent | Industry |
For post-sales personas, the challenge of getting the pulse of existing customers can be harder. A couple challenges that heatmaps can help address include:
- It’s hard to know who within the account is engaged: Use the Engagement View by Role.
- Don’t know what other products or services to upsell to existing customer: Find out the Intent keywords that get the most interest and the accounts that are showing higher engagement.
Filter Tables with Heatmaps
On Demandbase pages that include heatmaps, you can click on different areas of the heatmap (column and row headers or individual entries) to filter the data displayed in the table.
For example, when you click on the VP column header in the heatmap, the table shows data for people in VP roles.
Tip: Click the selected item again to revert the table to its original view.
