Understanding the Unified List Builder for Demandbase One for Sales

Important: This article is for users with both Demandbase One for Marketing and Demandbase One for Sales (DB1S) licenses. Users with a DB1S-only license should refer to Build and Manage Lists.

Use the Unified List Builder in DB1S to create dynamic lists of accounts and people that match your ideal customer profile. Unified List Builder combines data from your CRM, data imports, and Demandbase.

You can build lists using dimensions, advanced or saved filters, existing lists, or by imported CSV files.

Prerequisites for Using Unified List Builder

You must have Admin privileges or be assigned to a permission set with the required Demandbase settings access.


Create a List using Filters

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List.
  3. Go to List Build tab > Accounts or People tab.
    Tip: Switching tabs changes the record type shown. Your selected filters remain applied.
  4. Apply filters using any of the following options:
  5. Click Save > Save as New List.
  6. Configure the list:
    • Name: Name of list.
    • Type: Dynamic (see Account Lists Types)
    • Visibility: Select who can view the list.
      • Public: Visible to everyone in your company.
      • Private: Visible only to the creator of the list and any users with an Admin role.
    • Folder Location:
      • To use an existing folder, click Select Folder, click a folder name, and click Add.
      • To use a new folder, click create a new folder, enter a folder name, and click Create folder. Click Select Folder again and click the new folder name.
  7. Click Save.

Create a List from an Existing List

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List.
  3. Click Start with a saved list and select an existing list from the drop-down.
  4. (Optional) Edit filters on the left as needed.
  5. Click Save > Save as New List.
  6. Enter the following:
    • Name: Name of list.
    • Type: Dynamic (see Account Lists Types)
    • Visibility: Select who can view the list.
      • Public: Visible to everyone in your company.
      • Private: Visible only to the creator of the list and any users with an Admin role.
    • Folder Location:
      • To use an existing folder, click Select Folder, click a folder name, and click Add.
      • To use a new folder, click create a new folder, enter a folder name, and click Create folder. Click Select Folder again and click the new folder name.
  7. Click Save.

Create a List by Importing a CSV File

Important: Reimporting an updated CSV file can overwrite previously imported data.

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List.
  3. In the List Build tab, click Import a CSV list.

Step 1: Select List

Select the record type and CSV file you want to import.

  1. Select Account or People.
  2. Enter a name for the import.
  3. Upload a CSV file of accounts or people. See Import, Update, and Delete Account, Opportunity, People, and Activity Data from a CSV File.
    Important: 
    • In DB1S, you can only import Account and People data.
    • In DB1S, you only see People records that are matched to an Account record.
  4. Click Next.

Step 2: Field Mapping

Map each CSV field you want to import to the corresponding Demandbase field.

  1. Select the fields you want to import and map them to a field in Demandbase.
  2. Click Next.

Step 3: Review & Confirm

Review the import configuration before importing the records.

  1. Review the import job and click Import.

After the import finishes, review the List Upload Results and Match Report
Tip: If the report includes unmatched records, correct the source data and upload the CSV file again.


Edit Filters for a Saved List

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List.
  3. Go to List tab and click on name of the list.
  4. Update the filters using any of the following options:
  5. Click Save > Save Updates.

Edit Saved List Properties

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List.
  3. Go to List tab and click on name of the list.
  4. Click Save > Save Updates > Edit List Properties.
  5. Edit list name, visibility, and folder location as needed.
  6. Click Save.

Save Filters for Unified List Builder

Save a set of filters so you can reuse it when building lists.

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List.
  3. Apply filters on the left using the following options:
  4. Click Save > Save as New Filter.
  5. Configure the saved filter:
    • Name: Name of filter.
    • Visibility: Select who can view the list.
      • Public: Visible to everyone in your company.
      • Private: Visible only to the creator of the list and any users with an Admin role.
  6. Click Save.

Delete a Saved Filter

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List.
  3. Go to List Build tab.
  4. Expand Saved Filters and hover over the saved filter you want to delete.
  5. Click the settings icon.
  6. Click Delete Saved Filter.
  7. In the confirmation box, click Proceed.

Find Lists in Unified List Builder

To find a list, use the top List Type, Owner, Favorite, or Visibility filters. 

You can also click the Search Icon.png search icon and enter a list name.


Take Action on a List

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List
  3. Go to the Lists tab and hover over the list name. 
  4. Click the Settings icon and select from the following:
    • Make Favorite: Make the list a favorite.
      Tip: 
      • Favorited lists appear at the top of the list table.
      • You can also click the Make Favorite (heart) icon to favorite or unfavorite a list.
    • Unfavorite: Remove the list as a favorite.
    • Make Public: Make the list available to all users.
      Important: After you make a list public, you cannot make it private again. 
    • Delete: Delete the list.
      Important: Demandbase requires you to confirm before deleting a list.
    • Add to Folder: Add the list to a specific folder. See Create and Manage Folders for Account, Person, and Opportunity Lists.

Take Action on Multiple Lists

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List
  3. Go to the Lists tab and select the checkboxes for lists. 
  4. Click Take Action and select from the following:
    • Make Favorite: Make lists as a favorite.
      Tip: Favorited lists appear at the top of the list table.
    • Unfavorite: Remove lists as a favorite.
    • Make Public: Make lists available to all users.
      Important: After you make a list public, you cannot make it private again. 
    • Delete: Delete lists.
      Important:  Demandbase requires you to confirm before deleting lists.
      You can’t delete lists that are used in active ad campaigns.
    • Add to folder: Add lists to a specific folder. See Create and Manage Folders for Account, Person, and Opportunity Lists.

Export Records from a List

Your DB1S credit limit determines the number of records you can export. See Understanding Export Credit Limits for Demandbase One for Sales.

  1. Log in to Demandbase One for Sales.
  2. From the left navigation bar, go to Build a List
  3. Go to the Lists tab and click a list name.
  4. Select the checkbox for one or more records. 
  5. Click Take Action.
  6. Select an export option:
