Understanding the Standard Sales Engagement vs. Marketing Engagement Segment

By default, Demandbase provides a standard Sales Engagement vs. Marketing Engagement segment to help you get started. This segment groups activities into sales and marketing engagement, providing key insights at both the account and person levels.

What You Can Do with This Segment

  • Evaluate sales performance by tracking engagement with sales activities.
  • Gauge marketing impact by measuring marketing-driven engagement.
  • Analyze engagement patterns to identify trends and shifts over time.
  • Set up alerts for targeted outreach by flagging accounts with high marketing engagement but low sales activity.
  • Improve sales and marketing alignment to optimize collaboration, outreach, and conversion rates.

How Activities Are Grouped

This segment categorizes activities into two groups:

  • Sales Engagement: Activity types that are:
    • Task
    • Event
    • Inbound email
    • Meeting attendance
    • Open sales email
    • Click sales email
  • Marketing Engagement: Activities that are not included in the Sales Engagement group.

Important: To ensure accurate tracking, confirm that activities are correctly assigned to the appropriate group. Update the segment if any activities are missing or incorrectly categorized. See Edit Segment.

Segment and Standard Demandbase Calculated Fields

This segment powers several standard calculated fields in Demandbase.
Important: For these standard calculated fields, you must first assign Engagement Points to the activities. The fields then evaluate activities based on the criteria defined in this segment. See Set Up Engagement Points for Activities.

Use Segment as a Selector

You can use this segment as a selector across lists, reports, filters, and other areas in Demandbase.

To use the segment, go to the selector module, and add the Sales Engagement vs. Marketing Engagement activity selector.

Edit Segment

  1. From the left navigation bar, go to Database N.png Database > Activities > Activity Segments.
  2. Click the Sales Engagement vs. Marketing Engagement segment.
    Tip: The segment Owner is labeled as System.

  3. Make edits and click Save. See Create and Manage Segments.
