Create and Manage Segments

Context

Segments are a unique group of accounts, people, opportunities, or activities that share common characteristics, allowing you to target specific markets. See Understanding Segments

You can create, manage, duplicate, and delete segments.

Tip: To view the records that qualify for a segment, go to Database N.png Database > Account Segments, Person Segments, Opportunity Segments, or Activity Segments. Click the eye icon next to the Segment name.

Prerequisites

You must have Admin privileges or be assigned to a permission set with the required Demandbase settings access.

Steps: Create Segments

  1. From the left navigation bar, go to Database N.png Database > Account Segments, Person Segments, Opportunity Segments, or Activity Segments.
  2. Click Create New.

  3. Under Segment Name, enter a segment name. For example:
    • Account Segments: Region, Industry, Account Type
    • People Segments: Job Title, Department, Persona
    • Opportunity Segments: Product, Opportunity Amount, Opportunity Type
    • Activity Segments: Marketing vs. Sales Engagement, Source, Product
  4. Under Segment Description, enter a description of the segment.
  5. Click Next.

  6. Under Segment Groups, click + Add another Segment Group. 
  7. In the name box, enter a group name and click the pencil icon to define the group

  8. Using selectors, choose the criteria for the group and click Apply.
    Important: Special selectors cannot be used in segments.

  9. (Optional) To add more groups, repeat steps 6-8.
    Important: If a person, account, opportunity, or activity qualifies for multiple groups, Demandbase assigns them to the first group they qualify for. Drag and drop to arrange the groups so that the one intended for your most important records is at the top. For example, in a Campaign Responses segment, accounts may respond to both ABM Certification and Content Marketing campaigns. You may want to put the Content Marketing group first if the Content Marketing campaign is a priority for your marketing team.

  10. Under Other Groups, enter a name for the default group. For example, Default Group
    Tip: Records that don't qualify for any of the groups are placed in the default group.

  12. Review the segment details and click Save.
    Tips:
    • To edit the segment criteria, click the selector value box.
    • To see how many records qualify for the Segment, click the refresh icon.

Steps: Manage Segments

  1. From the left navigation bar, go to Database N.png Database > Account SegmentsPerson Segments, Opportunity Segments, or Activity Segments and click on a segment. 
  2. You can take the following actions: 
    • To edit the segment name, click Step 1: Segment Name and change the segment name. 
    • To edit a group name, click Step 2: Segment Criteria and change the group name. 
    • To edit a group criteria, click Step 2: Segment Criteria and click the pencil icon.

  3. Click Save.

Steps: Duplicate Segments

  1. From the left navigation bar, go to Database N.png Database > Account SegmentsPerson Segments, Opportunity Segments, or Activity Segments. 
  2. Click the checkbox next to the segment you want to duplicate.
    Tip: You can only duplicate one segment at a time.
  3. Click Take Action and click Duplicate.

  4. Enter a name and description for the segment and click Duplicate Segment.   
  5. (Optional) If you have a license for Workspaces, choose the workspace you want to create the segment in.

Steps: Delete Segments

  1. From the left navigation bar, go to Database N.png Database > Account SegmentsPerson Segments, Opportunity Segments, or Activity Segments. 
  2. Click the checkbox next to the segments you want to delete. 
  3. Click Take Action and click Delete

  4. Click the checkbox next to Delete segments and enter the number of segments you want to delete.
  5. Click Delete.
