Create or Customize Slack Alerts for Website Visitors

Website Visitor Alerts notify you in Slack when accounts from your subscribed account lists visit your website. These alerts help you monitor website engagement and identify accounts for follow-up.

Website Visitor Alerts include the account name, pages viewed, known website visitors, and Recommended People (when available). See Understanding Snapshot Emails, Demandbase in Slack, Reports, and Subscriptions.

You can create and customize Website Visitor Alerts for individual or multiple users. including which accounts and web pages trigger alerts and how frequently alerts are sent.

Important:

• Website Visitor Alerts can be available as early as 30 minutes after a visit. Alerts are sent on a schedule and are not real-time.
• Website Visitor Alerts are delivered only to the Demandbase app in Slack, not to public Slack channels.
• If the auto-create account list feature is enabled, Website Visitor Alerts are automatically delivered to account owners. A weekly sync identifies new Demandbase users and adds them to the alert distribution list.

Known Visitors in Website Visitor Alerts

Known website visitors are people identified through your integrated Marketing Automation System (MAS). Demandbase matches these people to accounts using its account identification technology.

Important: Known visitor details, including names that are incorrect, misspelled, or missing, come from your MAS.

Recommended People in Website Visitor Alerts

When an unknown visitor views your website, Demandbase uses Buying Group and Person-Based Intent (PBI) data to recommend people at the account who are most likely showing intent signals.

Recommended People are available when you have a Demandbase One for Sales license and configure Personas, Intent Keyword Sets, and Web Pages in Buying Groups.

Alert Suppression Interval for Website Visitor Alerts

The Alert Suppression Interval controls how frequently a user can receive Slack alerts for the same account.

Suppression is applied per recipient email address and account, not per subscription. If multiple subscriptions match the same account, the user receives at most one successful alert for that account during the configured suppression interval.

• Per user and account: Each recipient and account combination has its own suppression interval.
• Across subscriptions: Multiple subscriptions for the same recipient share the same alert history.
• Independent accounts: Alerts for one account do not suppress alerts for other accounts.
• No delayed delivery: Suppressed alerts are discarded and are not delivered after the suppression interval expires.
• New activity: After the suppression interval expires, new qualifying website activity can generate another alert.

Example of the Alert Suppression Interval for Website Visitor Alerts

If you receive an alert for Account ABC at 10:00 AM and the Alert Suppression Interval is 30 minutes, additional alerts for Account ABC are suppressed until 10:30 AM.

Suppressed alerts are not delivered later. However, new qualifying activity after 10:30 AM can generate another alert.

Activity from other accounts can still generate alerts during this period because suppression is tracked independently for each account.

Prerequisites to Create Website Visitor Alerts

• You must be logged in to Demandbase. 
• A Demandbase Admin must set up the Slack integration.
• A Slack Admin must get the Demandbase app in Slack.
• To include Recommended People in alerts:
  • You must also have a license for Demandbase One for Sales. See Create Users for Demandbase One for Sales.
  • Configure the following areas in Buying Groups:
    • Personas
    • Intent Keyword Sets
    • Web Pages

Create Website Visitor Alerts

1. From the left navigation bar, go to one of the following:

   • Individual users: Settings > My Profile > My Subscriptions. 
   • Multiple users: Settings > Analytics > Subscriptions.
     Important: You must be a Demandbase admin to create Website Visitor Alerts for multiple users.
2. Click Create Subscription.
3. In the Create New Subscription window, enter the following:
   • Channel: Select Slack.
   • Report: Select Website Visitor Alerts.
   • List: Select the account list you want to receive alerts for.
   • Users: Select the alert recipients.
   • Alert Suppression Interval: Specify how frequently recipients can receive alerts. See Alert Suppression Interval.
   • Start Date: Date when you want to start receiving alerts.
   • End Date: Date when you want to stop receiving alerts.
4. Click Save.
   

Customize Website Visitor Alerts for Individual Users

1. Open the Website Visitor Alert settings using one of the following options:

   • (Option 1) From Slack: Go to Apps > Demandbase. Go to any alert and click Preferences.
     
   • (Option 2) From Demandbase: From the left navigation bar, go to Settings > My Profile > My Subscriptions. Go to a Website Visitor Alerts subscription and click the right pencil icon.
     
     
2. To include or exclude accounts:
   1. Click the Manage account tab.
   2. In the Slack Alerts column, turn the toggle on or off for each account.
      Tip: Use the Search box or navigate through the pages to find specific accounts.
      
3. To include or exclude web pages:
   1. Click the Manage web pages tab.
   2. Select Inclusion or Exclusion.
      Important: You cannot combine Inclusion and Exclusion logic. Only the mode selected when you save is applied.
   3. Select a URL matching operator: Contains, Begins With, or End With.
   4. Select or enter part or all of one or more URL strings.
   5. (Optional) To add additional URL operators, click + Add More.
   6. Click Save.
      

Customize Website Visitor Alerts for Multiple Users

Important: 

• You must be a Demandbase admin to customize Website Visitor Alerts for multiple users.
• You can't update Website Visitor Alerts for multiple users if the subscription was created using the auto-create account list feature.

1. From the left navigation bar, go to Settings > Analytics > Subscriptions.
2. Find a Website Visitor Alerts subscription and click the right pencil icon.
3. To include or exclude web pages:
   1. Click the Manage web pages tab.
   2. Select Inclusion or Exclusion.
      Important: You cannot combine Inclusion and Exclusion logic. Only the mode selected when you save is applied.
   3. Select a URL matching operator: Contains, Begins With, or End With.
   4. Select or enter part or all of one or more URL strings.
   5. (Optional) To add additional URL operators, click + Add More.
   6. Click Save.
      

Outcome of Creating Website Visitor Alerts

After you save the subscription, Demandbase sends Website Visitor Alerts to the selected recipients in the Demandbase Slack app when accounts visit your website.

Troubleshoot Website Visitor Alerts

If you don't receive Website Visitor Alerts alerts as expected: 

1. From the left navigation bar, go to Settings > My Profile > My Subscriptions and verify that you have a Website Visitor Alerts subscription.
2. If no subscription exists, follow the steps in Create Slack Alerts.
3. Verify that the correct account list is selected.
4. Check the Manage web pages tab to confirm whether Inclusion or Exclusion is selected and saved.
5. Check the Alert Suppression Interval to determine whether an alert may have been suppressed.
6. Confirm that the Demandbase app is installed in Slack and that the Slack integration is configured.
