Common Causes of Low Match Rates

  • Updated

Low match rates can sometimes be traced back to input data quality. Common examples include:

  • Use of excluded keywords: Users may enter terms that appear on Demandbase’s Company Name or Domain exclusion lists. These lists are designed to prevent incorrect matches and are continuously updated. For instance, entering “unknown” as a company name could otherwise match to a real company like “Enemy Unknown AB,” which would be misleading. The exclusion list prevents such mismatches, but this can reduce match rates.
  • Use of personal or generic email domains: Email addresses from domains such as gmail.com are included in the domain exclusion list. As a result, they won’t match to corporate records (e.g., a Gmail address do not map to Google Inc.).
  • Unmatched records despite available data: While the Demandbase matcher is robust across most scenarios, there are cases where it may not return a match even when relevant data exists in the database. Contact Demandbase Support for further investigation.

Tips to Improve Match Accuracy

  • Include country to narrow results.
  • Add job titles to improve precision.
  • Use standard job title terms.
Tip: Some abbreviations are automatically expanded (e.g., VP → Vice President, CEO → Chief Executive Officer), but others, such as SVP or CSO, may not yield consistent results.
