Understanding Data Stream

  • Updated

Data Stream is Demandbase’s customer data delivery service that automatically streams your data daily into your own environment, such as a data lake, data warehouse, cloud provider, or BI tools like Domo, Tableau, and Power BI.

It eliminates manual export and import processes, saving time, improving consistency, and reducing the risk of missing data while delivering tens of millions of rows in a single automated feed for reliable, comprehensive access.

Important: Data Stream supports delivery to cloud data warehouses and cloud storage services only. If you host your own data center, share your use case with your Demandbase Account Team to explore potential options.

Key Benefits

With Demandbase data in your own environment, Data Stream enables advanced analytics and activation across your broader data ecosystem. You can:

  • Develop dashboards and unify data: Combine multiple data sources to create centralized dashboards and data warehouses for a complete operational view.
  • Generate customer and campaign insights: Identify trends, optimize performance, and uncover growth opportunities.
  • Improve targeting and campaign execution: Apply insights in Demandbase One to refine account lists and increase campaign effectiveness.
  • Optimize keywords and engagement: Identify and apply high-performing keywords to boost relevance, engagement, and ROI.
  • Support advanced analytics: Conduct data science, machine learning, and business intelligence initiatives across integrated datasets.

Ideal Audience

Data Stream is designed to enable customers to build custom dashboards and run machine learning models using Demandbase data in their own environment. Its primary users include data scientists, analysts, marketing operations, and technical teams.

For example:

  • Data analysts with a strong understanding of their company’s data structure, proficient in SQL, Excel, and BI tools like Tableau, who collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and develop dashboards that support decision-making.
  • Analytics and BI teams that create dashboards and reports for internal teams such as marketing and sales.
  • Engineers and data scientists who perform ETL processes and advanced analysis using technologies like Spark and Hadoop.

Measure Impact

Assess Data Stream’s value by tracking efficiency, adoption, and business outcomes:

  • Time Savings: Reduction in manual data handling.
  • Adoption: Number of dashboards and reports created using Data Stream data.
  • Performance Metrics: Improvements in campaign performance and customer insights.
  • Business Outcomes: Impact on revenue, conversions, or other key outcomes driven by data-informed actions.

Data Availability by Collection

The data available through Data Stream varies based on the Collection your organization has purchased. Each Collection grants access to a curated set of datasets designed for specific business needs, such as modeling, activation, or data visualization. See Data Stream Collections.

Data Delivery Schedule

Demandbase delivers your Data Stream package daily at 12 PM UTC, including weekends, to your designated data warehouse, cloud storage, or BI tool. Each delivery contains data up to 5 AM UTC of the same day.

Because the data is processed once daily, there may be differences between Data Stream data and what appears in the Demandbase One Platform later in the day (for example, at 12 PM EST), due to the 12-hour gap between 12 AM and 12 PM EST.

In the initial release, delivery timing is fixed to ensure data completeness and accuracy. Custom delivery scheduling may be supported in the future once the service stabilizes.

Access Methods

Data Stream offers two access methods: Delivery and Hosted. Choose the option that best fits your organization’s infrastructure and data workflows.

Delivery Method

The Delivery method sends Demandbase data directly to your cloud environment. You retain full control over data policies, including retention and access permissions.

Delivery destinations:

  • Data Warehouse: Google BigQuery, Amazon RedShift
  • Cloud Storage: Google Cloud Storage (GCS), Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure Blob (via Azure Data Share), Demandbase Hosted SFTP

Data is delivered as:

  • Partitioned tables (by delivery date) in warehouse destinations.
  • Apache Parquet files (default) in storage destinations, organized by delivery date.
  • CSV format available upon request.

Delivery setup:

Demandbase works with your technical team to configure delivery to your cloud account. This requires a designated destination (for example, a BigQuery dataset or S3 bucket). Setup and initial delivery can typically be completed within a day for supported destinations.

Important: Each configuration supports only one delivery destination.

Hosted Method

With the Hosted method, Demandbase stores and manages your data in Google Cloud Platform or a Demandbase-hosted SFTP server.

Hosted options:

  • BigQuery API: Recommended for BI tools (e.g., Domo, Tableau, Power BI) via scheduled batch retrieval.
  • GCS API: Recommended for retrieving raw data files in Apache Parquet format.
  • SFTP: Available for direct file access via SSH.

Each customer receives isolated access through dedicated BigQuery datasets or GCS buckets.

Hosted setup:

  • GCP access: Supports Google user accounts or service accounts (one per integration).
Important: You can switch or suspend accounts upon request.
  • SFTP access: Requires a designated technical contact. Access is provided via SSH.
