Best Practices for Engagement Minutes

  • Updated

Getting Started

Begin by aligning a small group of Sales and Marketing stakeholders on how to assign Engagement Minutes. This alignment is essential for using engagement data in processes like account prioritization and identifying MQAs.

Configure Engagement Minutes during onboarding and review them semi-annually to ensure accuracy.

Understand Engagement Minute Categories and Types

See Understanding Engagement Minute Categories and Activity Types. Select the Engagement Minute Categories and Activity Types on the Engagement Minutes page.

To access the page, from the left navigation bar, go to  Settings_N.png Settings > Analytics > Engagement Minutes.

Important: You must have Admin privileges or be assigned to a permission set with the required Demandbase settings access.

Everything is Additive

If an item meets multiple conditions, the Engagement Minutes for that particular activity is additive. Avoid assigning duplicate Engagement Minutes. The following is an example of Engagement Minutes for Page Visits:

Activity Type Selector Item Engagement Minutes Assigned
Visit Web Page (Known) Does not contain Unsubscribe 1
Visit Web Page (Known) Contains /features 2
Visit Web Page (Known) Contains demandbase.com/solutions 4

Based on the example:

  • Any page that contains "unsubscribe" in the URL gets 0 minutes.

  • Any page not containing “unsubscribe” gets 1 minute (still from the first rule).

  • Any page that contains "/features" gets an additional 2 minutes (3 total).

  • Any page that contains "demandbase.com/solutions" gets an additional 4 minutes (5 total).

Engagement Minutes Update Retroactively

When you update Engagement Minutes, Demandbase retroactively applies the new rules to past activities, based on the configuration defined on the Engagement Minutes page.

View Engagement Minutes

You can view Engagement Minutes throughout the platform, such as records, heatmaps, fields, and tables etc.

To view Engagement Minutes for an account, go to Analytics2.png Analytics > Engagement, select the account, and scroll down to the table at the bottom of the page. In the Activities table, review the values in the Type, Details, and Engagement Minutes columns.
