Best Practices for Engagement Minutes

  • Updated

Getting Started

First, bring a small team of stakeholders/decision-makers from your Sales and Marketing teams together to agree upon how to assign Engagement Minutes. This key process needs to happen before your organization is ready to make business-level decisions around engagement data, such as how to prioritize the hottest accounts, MQAs (Marketing Qualified Accounts), and so on. Set up your Engagement Minutes once at the beginning of your onboarding and then review them semi-annually.

Understand Each Engagement Minute Category and Type

Read about the Understanding Engagement Minute Categories and Activity Types. Select the Engagement Minute Categories and Activity Types on the Engagement Minutes page.

To access the page, from the left navigation bar, go to  Settings_N.png Settings > Analytics > Engagement Minutes.

Important: You must have Admin privileges or be assigned to a permission set with the required Demandbase settings access.

Everything is Additive

If an item meets multiple conditions, the Engagement Minutes attributed for that particular item will be added together. Be careful not to assign duplicate Engagement Minutes. Below is an example of how Engagement Minute rules can be set up for known page visits:

Activity Type Selector Item Engagement Minutes Assigned
Visit Web Page (Known) Does not contain Unsubscribe 1
Visit Web Page (Known) Contains /features 2
Visit Web Page (Known) Contains demandbase.com/solutions 4

In the example above:

  • Any page that contains "unsubscribe" in the URL would get 0 minutes.

  • Any page not containing “unsubscribe” would get 1 minute (still from the first rule).

  • Any page that contains "/features" would get an additional 2 minutes (3 total).

  • Any page that contains "demandbase.com/solutions" would get an additional 4 minutes (5 total).

Engagement Minutes Update Retroactively

When you update how Engagement Minutes are assigned, your Engagement Minutes in Demandbase will automatically update. Engagement Minutes will be assigned retroactively per the new rules specified on the Engagement Minutes page.

Review Engagement Minutes

After setting up your Engagement Minutes, you can view them throughout the platform, including in tables.

To view Engagement Minutes for an account, go to Analytics2.png Analytics > Engagement, select the account, and scroll down to the table at the bottom of the page. In the Activities table, review the values in the Type, Details, and Engagement Minutes columns. Make sure you're not double counting Engagement Minutes.
